The Auburn Duo
Catherine Reid and Sam Finch formed The Auburn Duo in March 2024 to prepare for Catherine’s first year Masters recital. They met during their studies at the Royal College of Music (RCM), where Catherine is an RCM Scholar and supported by Help Musicians. She is in the second year of her Master of Music in Performance and Sam, a Robert McFadzean Whyte Award Holder, is in his final year of a Bachelor of Music. Catherine worked with Kathleen Bride at the Eastman School of Music during her Bachelor of Music, and now studies with Daphne Boden. Sam studies modern flute with Sue Thomas and Gitte Marcusson and Baroque flute with Rachel Brown and Lisa Beznosiuk.
Together they have performed in several RCM events, including Music in the Museum concerts, the 2025 RCM Chamber Music Festival, and the May, 2025, Harp Showcase. They have learned pieces such as William Alwyn’s Naiades: Fantasy Sonata for flute and harp and Alan Hovhannes’ Garden of Adonis, and plan to explore Nino Rota Sonata for flute and harp, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Concerto for flute and harp, and Arnold Bax’s Sonata for flute and harp. They will expand their shared passion for chamber music through performing in RCM and external events, applying for competitions, and creating an album during Catherine’s Artist Diploma at RCM across September 2025 – July 2026.
